Abstract:
Purpose. This article examines the role of the cooperative movement in modern Russia. Cooperation is a popular form of management especially for small forms, such as farms and private farms. Methods. The products produced in these farms similar to the products of organic agriculture are ana-lyzed. Small-scale farms produce agricultural products of approximately ½ of the share in relation to agricultural enterprises, and for some crops even more. However, the problem is with the sale of products. Aggressive marketing strategies do not always satisfy farmers with price when selling prod-ucts. It often happens that farmers are deprived of a free market niche to sell their products due to high competition from agricultural processors. Results. Cooperation is actually becoming a necessary form of management in Russia. Its role is to im-prove the socio-economic situation of rural people. There are conditions for the development of cooperation, but despite this, its development is slow. The reason for this is a large business that has a high market share and distributes the resource potential in its favor. The viability of cooperatives will be ensured only if they unite in a single system for their activities. This system should be based on regulated commodity relations. This requires state support for agricultural cooperation. We cannot say that the demand for agricultural products is fully satisfied. Therefore, the moderate growth of agricultural cooperatives is quite predictable. The scientific novelty involves the study of the viability of the cooperative movement and the conditions of sustainable development. According to the authors, creation of an agro-industrial union of co-operatives of various types able to oppose competition between cooperatives should become the re-sult of the integration activity at the district level.
