Abstract: Introduction. The article considers the grounds for the allocation of individual scientific and scientific-practical directions into independent branches of knowledge at the level of sections or particular theories as part of existing science. The separation of a new scientific direction and even an entire science from the existing scientific system is determined by the subject part of the material based on the understanding of empirical material and its separation from even similar semantic load and practical orientation of data. Methods. The methods of induction and deduction used make it possible to understand the particular nature of forensic micro-objectology within the framework of forensic examination. The research is conducted from the general to the particular on the basis of a comparative analysis of the subjects of private forensic theories and individual scientific and practical directions, which avoids the substitution of concepts and substantiates the conclusions. Analysis. The analysis of the possibility of distinguishing judicial micro-objectology is based on a comparison of various ideas presented in the scientific literature about the level of its differentiation as a separate direction, a private theory or an independent branch of knowledge, and supplemented with practical results of forensic expert activity. Results. The level of separation of the branch of knowledge about micro-objects corresponds to an independent teaching, which can be based on the formal criteria considered. To date, the level of universality of the provisions of microobjectology is insufficient to define it as a private forensic theory, since it does not define the main provisions of the sections of criminology, but only itself is based on them.
