Abstract: Crisis-overcoming orientation of development of the monocities in Russia has a strategic importance for formation of social and economic stability of the state. The existing programs of support of monoprofile cities, first of all, are directed to increase the level of diversification of economy and creation of conditions for attraction of investments. In the article the analysis of evolution of the legislative base regulating functioning of monoprofile municipal units is carried out, the main problems of their development are reflected. On the basis of the conclusions received, recommendations on improvement of measures of support of monotowns are formulated.
