Abstract: The article is devoted to the role and place of smart monitoring of water bodies in the system of regional management in the conditions of Informatization and digitalization of the economy. Monitoring of water resources should be smart, that is, it should be not only and not so much ecological, as ecological-economic and informational in nature and be based on the use of smart technologies that can provide opportunities for rapid collection, quality processing and effective use of a large array of data. For the purpose of regional strategizing it is offered to use the indicators characterizing extensive and intensive use of water resources. The combination of these indicators allows to obtain a dynamic portrait of the territory in order to improve the management of its water bodies.
