Abstract: Currently, the problem of maintaining health is relevant for all segments of the population. In connection with this fact, the scientific interest of researchers in various fields of knowledge is directed to the issues of health and health preservation. Within the framework of this article, the authors address the problem of the formation of health-preserving competence among university students in physical culture lessons. The authors of the article note that health-saving competence helps students to form a healthy lifestyle and becomes one of the main factors influencing an active life position and longevity of a person as a whole. The authors of the work emphasize that the formation of health-preserving competencies is achieved through the implementation of a physical culture program based on a combination of general pedagogical and specific methods of physical education. It was also noted that the inclusion of these methods in the educational process is inextricably linked with the competence of the teacher himself: the value attitude to health, the creation and maintenance of a favorable emotional climate in the classroom and a competent combination of modern methods in the implementation of the work program of the discipline in physical culture.
