Abstract: The article is written after the liquidation of the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia and the transfer of its functions to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Possible negative consequences of eliminating such a powerful anti-drug operational structure are considered. At the same time prospects for setting up a new service, Anti-drug intelligence, using the USA Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) accumulated experience of struggle with the transnational organized crime are also analyzed. It is shown that DEA, exploiting a relatively small operational staff together with the legal opportunities provided by the US legislature, can be extremely effective in fighting the crime beyond the national borders.
