Abstract: The article examines the specific characteristics of post-industrial economy, including the increase in the share of services in the structure of GDP and employment, the increasing role of information and technology in the activities of organizations. The presented features of post-industrial economy lead to qualitative changes in the factors of economic development, including entrepreneurship. In this regard, it is necessary to analyze the role of entrepreneurship as a factor of stimulating economic development in the modern post-industrial economy. The research analyzes statistical data on the development of the service sector and service entrepreneurship in Russia and foreign countries. In the process of historical and economic analysis the distinctive characteristics of entrepreneurs of industrial and post-industrial period of economic development are compared. The conclusions about the role of entrepreneurship as a factor of stimulating economic development in modern conditions are obtained.
