Abstract: The author examines how the systems of categories used to analyze social and cultural systems emerge. The works of Aristotle and Kant established tradition of an analytical approach, the author of the proposed article highlighted four additional approaches (exegetical, axiomatical, empirical, poetical), described the logical procedure that precedes the application of these approaches and demonstrated some examples applied in the studies of social and cultural systems.
