Abstract: The subject of this article is the specificity of the thinking of a contemporary man. It is argued that calculative thinking is inextricably linked with two types of knowledge – knowledge of the surface and the device of things. Thinking, concerned about things, loses something vital – the ability to move between metanarratives and objects. The loss of this ability can have devastating consequences for the human existence. The author illustrates his thesis with quotations from the dystopia of Evgeniy Zamyatin «We».
