Abstract:
Under the influence of the economic conditions and the pressure to withstand market competition, companies nowadays should become more and more interested in differentiating their products relative to other businesses in the industry. In this context the concept of positive variation is one of utmost importance. Variation is seen as an enemy of quality. In this respect Deming said that if we were to think of two words that summarize the idea of quality, these would be "reduce variation". The Six Sigma movement is a continuation that brings the subject of this article to a higher level. However, there is a type of variation that may have a positive impact on the economic activity of firms. In this article we will insist on this aspect. On one hand we refer to reducing variation, but also to reducing the complexity of process design and product design for the purposes of creating a rationality for diversification.
