Abstract: This paper addresses from a conceptual angle the impact assessment of public policies. The first part presents the fundamentals and mechanism for impact assessment of public policies, and the second part highlights the most significant contributions to this field at national and international level. The last part of the paper analyzes how the impact evaluation of public policies is understood and applied by Romanian public organizations and presents some proposals for improving the existing framework.
