Abstract: The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of the long-run impact of globalization on gender equality, the women’s opportunity to engage in social participation, the influence of globalization on the formal and informal norms of behavior which shape gender roles and women’s opportunities in social life, and the globalization-induced changes in the socio-economic status of women. This research makes conceptual and methodological contributions to China’s gender and law initiatives, the huge gender gaps in the literacy rate and educational attainment, the mobilization of women’s groups to work together towards shared goals and catalyze action, and the high levels of social stigma attached to transgressing norms of gender presentation. I am specifically interested in how previous research investigated the effects of globalization on gender equality, the commitment of the social-democratic welfare regime to promoting women’s labor force participation, women’s advance in the labor market, the labor market as a means of attaining gender equality, and the foundation of gender inequality in market economies
