Catalina Georgiana Picu, Ion Tudor and Daniela Predeteanu

Proceedings of the INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE, 2018, vol. 12, issue 1, 138-145

Abstract: Today’s workforce is becoming increasingly mobile due to the fast progress of information and communicaiton technology. This has led to a growth in the diversity of flexible workplace arrangements offered by companies, from small to medium and large-sized ones. It order to attract and retain employees, but also to ensure a good work-life balance for them, organizations introduced various compensation packages and working patters such as flexible working time, part-time, or working from home alternatives. Homeworking is one of the options employees choose most frequently and has been on constant rise at global level over the last decade. The objective of this study is to analyze the work from home cross-country trends whithin the European Union, how they changed over the last decade and where the trends may be going to. Also the reasearch will emphasize the importance of having the right tools to be able to work from home, so that there is no impact over the employee or organization performance. The results of this study shows that homeworking trends increased in the European Union in parallel with the development of individuals’ digital skills, and that in order for companies to enable work from home programs, they need to ensure they have the right software to minimize the potential impact over organizational performance and efficiency.
