Abstract:
A team's performance is the dynamic result of the collaboration between team management and its leadership. The human being needs proximity to develop harmonious relationships with the people around. The manager's role is to help the team build relationships, communicate in a fluid manner and allow team members to connect with the organization to maintain social and professional liaison, strategically. If in a dysfunctional team, each member goes in a certain direction, due to the lack of coordination or opportunistic behaviours, in the functional teams the actions are concerted, with positive effects on the performance. High performance teams are based on a unit of action and a good coherence and cohesion between the members, the sum of the individual energies being invested for the benefit of the team. The aim of this paper is to provide insight regarding the particularities of distance management and team leadership based on a thorough literature review and case studies analysis presented in previous research. Remote management is an opportunity to determine collaborators to become more autonomous and to increase their skills and also, the physical distance determines the manager to be aware team's needs. Team productivity can be spectacular, with results 5 to 10 times higher than what a dysfunctional team can produce.
