AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS ON THE DEGREE OF MARKET CONCENTRATION: COMPETITION INDICATORS

Mihail Buâªu

Proceedings of the INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE, 2012, vol. 6, issue 1, 529-537

Abstract: The activity of competition authorities often involves the necessity of analyzing the relevant market. A starting point of such an analysis should be the assessment of market concentration’s degree. Together with other information held by the competition authority, the degree of market concentration creates an overall image of the market. The economic theory indicates a direct connection between the degree of market concentration and companies’ performance on the market. Moreover, the competition authorities establish decision thresholds in relation to the shares held by the market players.
