Abstract: Our daily life combines an increasingly sedentary lifestyle with energy dense foods consumption. Adding increasing energy intake to decreasing energy expenditure results in body fat deposits. Depending on the amount of fat stored in the body and calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) categories of health risk are classified in overweight or pre-obesity, obesity and morbid obesity. Based on previous reports this article drew attention to the increasing extent of obesity in Romanian children. Further preventive measures in the physical and health education area were proposed
