STUDY ON THE SHARE OF MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract: Purpose: The issue of physical education isn’t a problem that’s been dealt with only recently, the necessity of this discipline has been debated and highlighted for a very long time, the link between this and the maintenance of the individual's health being demonstrated by specialists. The proposed study was carried out in 2019-2020 and wants to highlight the share of medical exemptions in relation to those who do not have a medical exemption at the Faculty of Letters and Sciences, which is part of the U.P.G. of Ploiesti. The study was carried out separately on a number of specializations and the data was centralized in order to draw the necessary conclusions. The research methods used are: bibliographic method, data collection and graphical method. A number of 325 students took part in this research: 72 boys and 253 girls. It can be said that the health problem of the young generation should be a priority, given that the healthier the society is, the faster and better their process of development can be. Although, it’s been recently observed that the population going through an aging process, healthy life expectancy is an aspect of the country's quality of life. It can be noticed that the majority in percentage of the students who shared medical exemptions is for girls with 13,83% as compared to boys with only 5,55 %. The only specializations where the percentage of the medical exemptions is higher in boys than in girls are Romanian Language and Literature - English Language and Literature (RE) and Managerial and Administrative Assistance (AMA). Maintaining the health of the young generation can be achieved through a program that includes the education for a healthy lifestyle, healthy eating, reducing sedentarism by increasing hours of physical activity, increasing the number of physical education classes
