Abstract:
The present paper examines the public transport network in Romania, particularly a detailed study of the transport systems in all the 41 counties of the country, with emphasis on the Bucharest region. The main objective of the study is the evaluation of Bucharest Municipality in relation to all the other counties in the country, using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) algorithm in order to obtain an overview of the overall efficiency in the urban transport networks. The purpose of the research was to design a methodology using the DEA algorithm which will evaluate the general efficiency for the public transport network in Bucharest, as well as use a software program dedicated to the DEA model. The results of the analysis can be used by public transport authorities to increase the profitability or the general efficiency of the network using an approach where the inputs and the outputs of the DEA algorithm are the most important variables.
