HOW DO INDIAN SOFTWARE PROJECTS PERFORM? A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

Abstract: Software projects are known for their time and cost overruns as well as their failure to meet the desired specifications. Studies from the western world have shown that the success rate hovers around 30% only. This research is reported from India, the hub of outsourced project development. Based on the data collected from over 300 projects from different type of software development organizations covering different categories of projects, the study looks at the success rate of Indian projects. Also, possible variation in success rate across select project and organization characteristics are also explored. The findings help to get a realistic picture of the project performance of the software developing companies in India.
