Abstract: In this work I provide a summary view of the statistical information available on public works in Italy since its unification. Emphasis is placed on the regional disaggregation of the data. For the years after 1927 there exist regionally disaggregated data, while for the previous years I develop the necessary quantitative information, though limited to state expenditures. The data thus available allow for a critical analysis of a selection of research themes, with attention to the measurement problems that still have to be solved for their treatment.
