Abstract:
If we accept the existence of an Italian industry of arts and cultural events, it is possible trying to have an empirical measure of the firms and other different organisations that satisfy the human needs of culture and cultural entertainment. In such sense, the market becomes very large: based on the 1996 Census data, the number of employees are 726.556 and the establishments more than 187,000 (56% directly of the art sector; 44% of activity servicing the arts). Further considerations coming from data of a sample of big firms: the activity “service” of the arts has better economic results than those of the sector directly connected with the arts.
