Abstract:
Giddens' structuration theory represents one of the best known approaches aiming to integrate different perspectives in organisational theory. However, this promising theoretical approach has got a blind spot: It fails to acknowledge the role which emotions play in the process of reproducing the organisation. This article aims to compensate for this deficit by complementing the structuration theory with approaches of the sociology of emotions. It becomes clear that organisational structures are created by emotions, and that they also produce emotions. The rather abstract concept of the emotion-based duality of structure is rendered visible in my paper by using an organizational anger story as an example.
