Abstract:
We investigate the strategies of one of the main Italian temporary help agencies (THAs) through the examination of a dataset which refers to the take-off period of THAs (1998-2000). The analysis sheds light on some characteristics of the temporary labor supply in Italy, which have been neglected — for lack of data sources — by the studies about the phenomenon. An econometric model evaluates the impact of the features of labor supply on the probability to achieve a temporary job. Pointing out the relevance of the human capital variables, the paper emphasizes the relationship between the behaviour of the examined THA and the workers' employability. Evidence from wage dynamics confirms the hints of the econometric analysis.
