Abstract:
In recent years, a vast literature has focused on thè mie played by economic variables in determining the perceived well-being of individuals. Analyses conducted so far show that economic aspects explain only a part of the variability in happiness: other profiles, such as health and family life, are more important. In this paper we want to ascertain whether some links observed in other countries also exist in Italy. Moreover, we explore how some national phenomena, such as the North-South economic gap, the quick process of population aging, and the corruption in public administrations impact on personal happiness.
