Abstract:
We provide an analysis of internal migration in Italy; compared to traditional analysis it has been enriched by information on socio-demographic characteristics and working histories of migrants. Push and pull factors to mobility are also examined, for the overall population and for specific subgroups characterized by different reactivity to economic differentials. Moreover, in addition to the traditional analysis which assesses the role of regional disparities in terms of job availability, income and cost of housing, attention is paid to other variables that have recently gained importance such as the raising spread of fixed term contracts and immigrant inflows from abroad.
