Abstract: In this paper I present a brief survey on corruption from an economic point of view. Since corruption is a very complex phenomenon, the first part of the work gives an overview of possible definitions of corruption offered by the economic literature. Then, I focus on the major causes which may be responsible for corrupt transactions. Finally, following the empirical and theoretical literature, I present a schematic review of the consequences of corruption on economic growth.
