Abstract: During the Nineties, the Italian manufacturing enterprises faced a growth of labour costs. It reacted through the contribution of technologies for mass production. This led to a production of lower quality, boosted by a new strong role of advertising and marketing strategies. The present years see a new era with major competitors like China, largely stronger in mass production. Italy has no means to win the contest for production costs in the globalized market. The only way to go for manufacturers is to link to culture and tradition to create products for the richest clients of the global market.
