The South and Regional Science: The Gap Between Theory and Practice

Abstract: I will comment briefly on the South as a region and on regional science and conclude with my observation on the gap between theory and practice. My intent is one of reflection, not so much on what we do, but on our ability to convert what we know about the South and about regional science into practical advice useful to policy makers throughout the region.
