Abstract: This article studies the level of industrial development across different states of India, with the help of composite indices. The study has brought out that huge disparities exist among the states which have accentuated over a period of time. In order to find out the magnitude of inter-state disparities in industries, 21 major Indian states for the period 1980-81 to 2009-10 have been examined.
