Abstract:
This article is aimed at presenting some of the concepts and indicators currently used in the analysis of agricultural exploitations, of their social and economic role and importance at world and European level. The EU enlargement process comprised important structural transformations in the agriculture of the former socialist countries and their passage to the market economy. In direct connection with these transformations the long-disputed issue regarding the superiority of the large-scale or small-scale farming was brought back into discussion.
