Abstract: In modern globalized times, leisure time, social and cultural participation are more and more fundamental issues for people to satisfy. Indagini Multiscopo sulle famiglie, a survey drawn up by the Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) provide a wide range of specific data in order to evaluate this particular part of Italian people’s life. It is a focal point because Italian people is very different in culture and habits, so, such a survey results strongly meaningful. Our paper uses this set of data to highlight the Italian situation, through the construction of a composite indicator. The selected methodology to do that is the Borda method. We obtain a ranking that shows in what context can rise higher levels of social and cultural participation. The aim is to analyze how this index could be related with some characteristics of population such as income, general well-being, demographic figures, institutional features and satisfaction measures.
