Abstract: This article discusses briefly the evolution and expansion of the right to meaningful employment in the United States; the impact of job guarantee legislation, in cluding the proposed Equal Opportunity and Full Employ ment Act of 1976, and other related legislation; and the relationships between employment levels and such issues as inflation, crime, political power structures, and the ethics underlying true equal employment opportunity. Passage of a strong Equal Opportunity and Full Employment Act is urged.
