The Strategic Impact of Hemispheric Free Trade

Norman A. Bailey and William Perry

The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, 1993, vol. 526, issue 1, 68-80

Abstract: Among the most original foreign policy departures of the Bush administration has been the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative. This initiative is also the first indication of a return by the United States to a hemispheric foreign policy orientation since the end of the Cold War. At the same time, an overwhelmingly democratic and market-oriented Latin America is a newly appropriate partner for the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative. The future of both sides lies in a strategic partnership between them.
