The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, 1995, vol. 541, issue 1, 89-100
Abstract:
In spite of the end of the Cold War, the United States will undoubtedly continue to involve itself in small wars. This article briefly discusses the nature of small wars (that is, limited or lowintensity conflicts), examines the emerging international political and military environment and its implications for the United States, and analyzes related trends in American policy and doctrine. It concludes that improved performance in this arena will require important changes in the American approach at the strategic and political levels.
