Abstract: The National Sheriffs' Association, along with its affiliate, the International Association of Court Officers and Services, provides training and support to improve and upgrade the readiness of local court security officers, deputies, and court personnel. Awareness, prevention, and control are critical components to ensure a safe, orderly environment for the judicial administration of our court systems. Local courthouses have become more volatile and susceptible to workplace violence. This article details steps and preventive planning that all sheriffs' offices and other court security operations should take into account regardless of resources, size, or operational complexity.
