Two other essays on the Reform Movement (1898) and the Boxer Uprising (1899-1900) are to follow. In this essay, Dr. Tan discusses some important and controversial issues about the study of the Taiping Movement, keeping in view both the Communist Chinese perspective and Western scholarly views.
