Abstract: From this issue onwards we shall carry five articles by PROF. TAN CHUNG on 'Imperialism in 19th- Century China'. The subsequent articles will deal with the Treaty System, Finance Imperialism, Spheres of Influence and the 'Open Door' Policy, and Christian Missionary Activities in China. The articles are revised versions of class lectures which have been delivered to the M.A. students in history over the years. — EDITOR.
