Abstract:
In the last ten years, biotechnology has become a subject of intense interest to many persons concerned with high technology and regional development. This review article undertakes to evaluate the written documents on the development of the biotechnology industry so that people unfamiliar with the industry will be able to identify documents useful to their needs. The review pays special attention to those documents referring to the social, economic, and political aspects of biotechnology. The role of the university in biotechnology is examined in depth.
