Strategic Options for Forestry Development in Asian-Pacific Countries

S.T. Mok

Energy & Environment, 1991, vol. 2, issue 4, 368-379

Abstract: Asian-Pacific is ecologically and economically diverse, but, the countries within it have some common features. Generally, rapid depletion of fuelwood, timber harvesting and human settlements have caused serious environmental degradation. Sustainable forest management and development based on a conservational approach is probably the most realistic solution. Regional cooperation should be encouraged to develop strategic options and appropriate technologies, skills, and information required for effective forest resources conservation.
