Abstract: Advances in researches in geography and planning both in developed and less developed countries have followed similar, if not the same, philosophical and methodological framework. More recently, however, a gap has been observed, with developments in humanistic geography and environment – behaviour – design research receiving no significant attention in countries of the developing areas. This paper highlights this highly neglected field of research in the developing world and articulates some of the reasons behind the neglect. The potential benefits for geography and environmental planning of researches drawing on this neglected theme are analyzed in the context of the developing world.
