A Model of Economic System—Ecosystem Interaction
James Wilen
Environment and Planning A, 1973, vol. 5, issue 3, 409-420
Abstract:
The basic Ayres—Kneese materials-balance model is extended by appending a model of a set of ecosystems together with the corresponding linkages. Both submodels employ linear transformation depictions of the input—output processes, a measurement of physical production as an index of comparison, and a joint reliance on a stock of material common to production in both systems. A set of index numbers is developed which indicates the relative impact of the production of a particular commodity on particular ecosystems.
