Abstract: Following ideas presented in a previous paper, a formal rule-based model for defining transformations of languages of designs is introduced in brief. The model may be used to characterize relationships between historic styles of designs or to construct new and original styles from known ones. This approach to change and innovation in design is discussed in relation to more traditional, informal approaches.
