Abstract: The traditional theories of style are reviewed from an artistic-products point of view and the possibilities of scrutinizing style are examined from the information-processing perspective. Assumptions are proposed and variables defined upon which set of hypotheses are developed to inspect the formation of a style. It is hoped that the paper will lay down foundations for developing a tool to study style empirically.
