Graph-Theoretic Aspects of Polyominoes and Related Spatial Structures

R Matela and Ellin O'Hare

Environment and Planning B, 1976, vol. 3, issue 1, 79-110

Abstract: This paper presents a statistical survey of certain topological characteristics of n -omino populations for n ≤ 9, and shows that these apply to a more general class of multicellular structures, introduced here as multiplices. The architectural relevance of this study is discussed in terms of the relationship between form and function; adaptability and flexibility; internal and external growth and change; complexity and robustness.
