Abstract:
Functional requirements in architectural design are usually expressed verbally as normative statements (norms) to be satisfied by the physical design. The norms may be formalised and propositional calculus used to determine an exhaustive set of possible solutions (and vice versa). Some early examples from apartment layout designs are given (MouÄ ka, 1960).
