Abstract: The world electronics industry has experienced a significant, and ongoing, restructuring in the past decade as a response to heightened competition and rapid technological innovation. This has resulted in a surge of globalisation and ownership concentration. At the same time new quality imperatives have changed occupational structures in the industry, and firms are moving to the adoption of localisation strategies to meet just-in-time scheduling. All of these issues have important implications for regional economies which have a heavy presence in the electronics sector.
