Impact of Stress on Health: A Study of Bank Branch Managers in India

Abstract: The study examined the relationship between job and family related stressors and the physical and mental health of bank branch managers. A sample of 316 bank branch managers from public and private sector banks operating in the state of Punjab (India) was selected. A significant number of the respondents have been found experiencing poor physical and mental health. ‘Highly intricate nature of the job’, ‘lack of time for family and personal care’, ‘insufficient training and career uncertainties’, ‘performance constraints and pressures’, ‘surveillance required’, ‘unwanted criticism’, ‘travelling and transfers’, and ‘family obligations’, have been found affecting the physical and mental health of bank branch managers.
