Abstract: The objective of this study is to evaluate the current literature on the use of Operational Research (OR) in solving the transportation problems in the developing countries. The review is a result of several months of searching through a wide range of journals and publications. The studies are classified into three broad groups: (a) Planning and Evaluation; (b) Distribution and Location; and (c) Scheduling and Routing. Finally, a research agenda for the future in this important area is outlined.
