Abstract:
Income convergence among countries in a region promotes geopolitical stability in the short run as well as economic cooperation in the long run. Using annual data for 1960–2000, we examine the issue of income convergence among the 10 ASEAN economies during the sample period. We do not find any evidence of inter-country income convergence within ASEAN as a whole or within a core subset of ASEAN.
