Characteristics of Economic Fairness in the Music Streaming Economy: A Comparative Analysis of Current Distribution Models
Richard Arthur Connerth
Journal of Interdisciplinary Economics, 2026, vol. 38, issue 1, 48-62
Abstract:
This article compares current distribution models in the music streaming economy. The models presented are the pro rata model, the user-centric model (UCM), a progressive extension of the UCM and an alternative model. It focuses on a critique of the UCM as an alternative remuneration model, arguing that the UCM has the potential for economic devaluation, which can be exposed through simple logical analysis. It also provides criteria for fair remuneration in a distribution model.
